Deepening our relationship with Bramber Bakehouse

Last week, volunteers from William Alexander met up with the team from Bramber Bakehouse as we prepare to host a number of their programme graduates for a CV writing workshop.

Bramber Bakehouse is an award-winning charity, supporting women who’ve experienced abuse, exploitation or displacement and giving them the confidence, skills and knowledge for a positive future. Their programme guides women as they learn technical baking skills alongside life skills, helping them progress to employment, volunteering or education.

William Alexander have previously been involved with the Bakehouse by giving charitable grants and fundraising on their behalf. These new workshops represent a deepening of our commitment to the fantastic work they do.

CV writing workshops

We are creating and facilitating a number of workshops on writing a CV and preparing for job interviews, with the pilot session running in December 2024.

Our volunteers learned about how to take a trauma-informed approach to the workshops, including how to gauge how participants are feeling on the day and techniques to avoid overwhelming with information. Making sure women don’t feel stressed, anxious or disengaged is crucial to the success of the programme.

As an organisation that reviews hundreds of CVs every day, we know how to tell the story of the skills and achievements you’ve gained in your career. We were excited to work out how to apply this expertise to graduates of Bramber Bakehouse’s programme, stripping back to basics and focusing on how to present transferable skills such as ability to meet deadlines or follow complex instructions.

What’s next?

We are developing examples of CVs and CV templates to give practical help to all the participants, and are looking forward to welcoming our first cohort. Stellarmann’s Anna Myland commented:

“These workshops have been in the making for a while now and we’re delighted to be delivering the first in the series, and to continue our meaningful partnership with such a worthy cause.”
